Giving…and Thanksgiving

By: Robert Tinning, 2008-2009 AAGD President
AAGD’s Community Service Committee identifies avenues through which the Association and its members may make worthwhile contributions to the AAGD service area and its members. The Committee identifies and coordinates charitable projects closely aligned with the apartment industry in which the Association and its members may become involved. The Committee promotes the multifamily housing industry and helps to create a positive image for the industry as a whole.
Over the years, AAGD members have been involved in a wide array of community service projects including the recent project with Reconciliation Outreach (Spring 2008), Jeffries Street Learning Center, Bataan Community Center, Texas Discovery Gardens/Fair Park, Dallas Children’s Theater, Bryan’s House, Skyline Ranch, The Joppa Project, Pennies Helping Police, and Flag Pole Hill, to name just a few.
The AAGD Board of Directors will soon announce information regarding the Spring 2009 Community Service Project. Jim Goodman and Mark Frazier (FTK Renovations), are serving as Co-Chairs for AAGD’s 2008/2009 Community Service Committee. There will be various needs which will be published the first part of the new year in AAGD Rooflines. The Committee challenges you even now to be thinking of adopting a part of the project and become involved. Watch for the announcement in AAGD Rooflines!
In the spirit of the season
AAGD and AATC members will once again fill Santa's sleigh! It’s that time to set our sites on collecting hundreds of toys! We can’t do it without your help. This year, we’re collecting toys for the U.S. Marine Corp Toys For Tots program.
AAGD and AATC members will celebrate the holiday season on December 16 with a festive Christmas Reception at the OMNI MANDALAY HOTEL – LAS COLINAS. The evening will feature an opportunity for you to become Santa's helper – to collect toys for less fortunate children in North Texas.
The 2008 Toy Drive Committee, chaired by Angi Pusateri (RentDebt.com) has decided once again to share some of AAGD's/AATC’s generosity and holiday spirit with other needy organizations in the Metroplex, such as the Santa Cops organizations in the cities of Dallas, Richardson and Carrollton.
We need your help in making this year's drive as successful as year's past. You may become involved by...donating a toy, providing your office as a toy drop location, promoting the toy drive or by making a cash donation for the committee to purchase toys. As in years past, all attendees at the Annual AAGD Christmas Reception are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for a girl and a toy for a boy.
The Marine Toys for Tots program is the largest toy drive in the nation. Toys for Tots dispense more than 200,000 toys annually. Local campaigns are conducted annually in over 500 communities throughout the U.S. There are over 3,500 drop-off locations in the North Texas area making it the largest per capita campaign. The campaign benefits over 120,000 children during the Christmas season.
After the toys have been collected, volunteers deliver the toys to the various agencies including homeless and abuse shelters, community centers, community relief organizations and area hospitals. The toys are distributed from the centers to the parents of needy children. To qualify for assistance, the families must undergo a strict qualification process, proving that they are in need of assistance.

Only a few days remaining in AAGD’s Membership Campaign - 125 new members
Only a few days are left to recruit new members in AAGD’s Fall Membership Campaign. We're at 76 new members! Here’s your opportunity to give something back to the multihousing industry by becoming involved this year with AAGD’s Membership Recruitment Campaign. This year’s Fall Membership Campaign is under the direction of the 2008 Membership Advisory Committee. The goal for this year’s campaign is 125 new AAGD members. Jeff Hoster (Pinnacle) is leading the effort this year as 2008 Membership Committee Chair. There’s still time to recruit new members for the drive – and there’s plenty of CA$H available for the winners! Want more information on how you can earn a few extra holiday dollars? Call AAGD Member Services, 972.385.9091.

Congratulations to AAGD’s Ron Shelton
This month, Dallas hosts the NAA Assembly of Delegates. Highlighting the event, the installation of AAGD’s own Ron Shelton as NAA Chairman of the Board for 2008/2009. Ron, from all of your AAGD family and business associates, we extend our warmest congratulations!
As we enter the 2008 holiday season, we all have much to be thankful for! Be thankful for the opportunity to reach out to help others. AAGD and AATC members have a special opportunity to do just that through the upcoming 2009 Community Service Project, and the Toy Drive – coming up next month! Have a safe and bountiful Thanksgiving!
